Here we have another example of the ever popular 5" gauge Sweet Pea. This time in open cab and 0-4-2 guise. A nicely made example with a professional boiler from Blackgates fitted. New in 2003 the loco has clearly run but is certainly not tired in any significant way. The Hackworth valve gear is exactly as you would expect, being tight in the coupling and connecting rods, but with the usual slight slop in the die block and play in the valve rod linkage. Nothing unusual for a Sweet Pea and it certainly runs nicely. The previous owner has made a rosebud grate as well which steams very freely.
Lubrication is mechanical but there is also a pair of displacements on the front of the tank for the cylinders, so belt and braces there! There is an injector fitted as well as the axle pump with footplate mounted bypass valve and a hand pump sneaked away under the running boards as per the drawings. As with the vast majority of our models she can come with a fresh 4 year boiler test and annual steam test so she's ready to hit the track.
